Any way I can watch the Ethiopians compete in the Olympics?

It’s no secret that our family is forever connected to Ethiopia. So in addition to cheering on Team USA, we’re also waving the Ethiopian flag whenever we can. Ethiopians are well-known for their distance running. Haile Gebrselassie is a national treasure. We’re pulling for the Ethiopian runners, even though he isn’t competing this year. We were also excited to discover that Ethiopia has sent their first-ever swimming entries to the London Olympics!

I really need to find a way to be able to watch them compete online. Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m not sure I can count on catching any of them on NBC. Their coverage is a bit too US-centric. While that normally isn’t really a problem, it sure makes it difficult when you’re trying to strengthen your family’s appreciation of the homeland of their youngest member. It also doesn’t help that NBC makes it nearly impossible to figure out when the Ethiopians are scheduled to compete.

Fortunately, ESPN has stepped in and has done a fabulous job. Thanks to them, I know that Mulualem Girma’s 50 meter freestyle is on Thursday at 5 in the morning. I also know that Yanet Seyoum Gebremehdin has her 50 meter freestyle heat on Saturday morning at around 5 (she was the flag bearer at the Opening Ceremony).  Too bad I still don’t have a way to watch them.

Whether we’ll be able to watch them or not…

Good luck, Ethiopian athletes!
