Leavin’ on a Jet Plane

Well, not really “leavin’” on a jet plane. More like already left. And came back. Two weeks ago today, we were in the air with Ethiopia as our ultimate destination. It was a long flight – something like 20 hours in a plane. By the time we reached Sudan, I guess you could see the exhaustion on my face.

But before that video, I promise I was more excited, even though I wasn’t exactly thrilled about the idea of flying over the ocean. Or into Sudan, for that matter.

Ready to board the flight to Detroit, our first leg of a long, long journey.

The airport in Amsterdam had a Lego mockup of their terminal. I think every airport should have a Lego display.

Flying over Egypt

Flying over Egypt. No, you can't see any pyramids.

Ill be honest. We were a little concerned about stopping in Sudan. Everyone told us theres nothing to it. Its just dust as far as you can see. While this isnt exactly a towering skyline, does this look like dust as far as you can see to you? At least they were right saying Sudan was a piece of cake.

Ready to take off from Khartoum. So ready to be off the plane. Even more ready to finally meet our Little Girl!

The flight tracker confirmed that yes, we were in fact going to Addis Ababa.

    • Aw, come on! It’s not like you have more important things to do or anything like that (like getting french fries, or supporting your friendly neighborhood marching band, or being a fabulous Mommy for your sweet, sweet Caroline). Nope – your plate is completely empty.

Let me know when you post it so I can stop artificially inflating your number of hits. ;)

  1. Thank you for sharing about your trip. Mihret is beautiful and I hope I will get to meet her before too long. I hope you are able to keep adding the rest of the story.

    • HaHa! I hope I’m able to keep adding the rest of the story, too! ;)

I tried to convince Christy to drive down for Homecoming, but she wasn’t too keen on the idea of taking the three down by herself. Imagine that! We’ll get down there sometime soon.

  2. That was truly a LONG flight. The anticipation and excitement alone would have driven me bonkers. I pictured nothing but dust too, thanks for sharing the pics and I look forward to seeing more :) . I was so honored to meet Mihret what an angel!!!
