Flashback Friday

another picture of me in middle school

Admit it, we’ve all had them. Some have had more of them than others. I’ll confess I’ve had a few.

Bad hair days.

Last week’s Flashback Friday wasn’t the only time I had hair that didn’t fit in with my peers’ styles. But I got the last laugh, I guess. They called me porcupine in last week’s picture. Then within a few years, everyone had buzz cuts.

I would let my buzz grow out sometimes. Maybe it got a little too long, but I still liked it. Many of my friends didn’t. They would make fun of my ‘fro.

In retrospect, I’ll admit that it might look a little mullet-esque, but I think it would hardly qualify as an afro. Of course, within a year of my giving up this hairstyle, there was a resurrection of the popularity of the afro. Yet again, I was ahead of the curve. I guess I’m just a man before my time.

Of course, the most painful part of this picture has nothing to do with my hair. It’s the sweater. I’ll confess that it was my favorite sweater at the time. Although they’re not as boisterous as the Cosby sweaters, I’m sure Mr. Huxtable had a little bit of inspiration for the designer.

Can’t wait to see the country jump on the bandwagon with this hair (just pay no attention to the gray):

I can guarantee you, however, that I will not be leading the way to a revival of these hairstyles…
