Catching up with the past two weeks

So,   [info]liztodd asked me yesterday how school was going since I hadn’t really posted much news (other than the whole church thing) over the past few weeks. Unfortunately, I had to tell her that school hadn’t really started for me yet (although I was in a Wintersession class this week…but that doesn’t count, does it?) and I had been neglecting my responsibility as the keeper of MattDanTodd Land to keep you updated on what life has been like her over the past few weeks.

Let’s just say it’s been busy.

Thursday night – Got a call from Frank informing me that Summit would be closing its doors (read about it here). I was suddenly hit with the realization that I really needed to break this news to our Community Group in person. An email or a phone call just wasn’t going to cut it. Conveniently, we had already arranged to meet[info]milestogo   at Misaki and broke the news to her. While we had fun at dinner, the evening still ended on a down note, considering the news of the church think continued to linger. It was the 500 pound gorilla that we actually wanted to talk about…a lot!

Friday – Winter Jam concert with Christy thanks to  [info]liztodd and[info]kmtodd23 . We were joined by two ladies in our Community Group and thousands of screaming youth groups. Pictures will be posted as soon as I can get them online. One of the curses of dialup is that you can’t get pictures online very quickly.

Sunday – Visited a church with members of our Community Group (which we have decided to name The Wandering Church of the Nomad. I know it’s redundant. That’s the idea. Come on. You know you want to laugh!). It’s always less intimidating to visit a church in groups. Watched the Colts win their playoff game, which is always good. Aiden came down with a 103 degree fever. No school for him tomorrow.

Monday – Oh wait! It’s Martin Luther King Day! He didn’t have to miss school. Unfortunately, he was still sick and that kept Christy from taking them to see Charlotte’s Web.

Tuesday – Aiden’s still sick. First time he’s ever been absent from school. He was a little more excited about that than I’d have expected, but I can’t say I blame him. We meet with a couple that evening to tell them the church situation. Although I was expecting some weeping and gnashing of teeth, the whole event was much more calm than was expected.

Wednesday – Aiden stays home with me. Christy takes Aly to see Charlotte’s Web. Had Community Group that night. Decided to keep meeting on Wednesday nights regardless of whether Summit existed or not.

Thursday – Aiden could have gone to school today. We decided to keep him home and make sure he had fully recovered.

Friday – Christy called the local radio show and won free tickets to the Farm Expo in Kingsport. Aiden went back to school. Immediately after he was done, we went over to Kingsport with Blair and Paula. Saw lots of tractors and other farm-related equipment. The 4-H had a petting zoo, which the kids loved. There was lots of other stuff, but I’ll have to save it for a separate post because pictures and videos will be involved. Of course, they’re taking forever to upload. Stupid dialup. You’re cramping my style!

Saturday – Had a meeting with leadership team from Summit. We’re still closing the doors. The Inlaw moves out. She has an apartment 1.1 miles away. The kids stayed with her and “helped” her clean. Took Momma out for a night on the town.

Sunday – Visited another church with The Wandering Church of the Nomad. [info]jbalogna joined us. See? Our congregation’s growing already! Watched the Colts beat the Patriots. It doesn’t get any better than that. Oh wait! Yes it does!

The Colts are going to the Super Bowl!

Monday – First day of Pastoral Care and Counsel(ing) in the Missional Church. Every time I take one of these Wintersession classes, I swear I won’t do it again because going to school from 8-5 for five days straight is enough to make you want to gouge your eyes out. And that’s on a good day when your professor is interesting! I know many people do it at work…it’s just a different monster when you’re in a class.

Wednesday – Canceled Community Group. The majority was either out of town, sick, or at meetings. We’ll resume this Sunday with The Wandering Church.

Today – Finished the classroom part of the class. Now I just have to work on the projects and get them done. Finished registering for classes. Wondered if I’m crazy taking the class load I’m taking. Decided that I am. Kept the schedule anyway. Got a few leads for some part-time preaching positions in the area. I’m going to call them tomorrow.

I think that’s all for now. Now you know. And knowing’s half the battle (“GI Joe!” sing the background vocals).
