Homecoming

Time for a little housekeeping, I guess.

We went to Milligan’s Homecoming two weeks ago (man, time sure does fly sometimes). When I was in youth ministry up in Indy, we came down to Milligan for a youth conference. While I tried not to be too biased, I did encourage many of the students to consider attending Milligan because of the quality of education.

When we moved back down here so I could go to school, I was pleasantly surprised at how many students from my old youth group had decided to attend Milligan (I think there were six…I think).

I keep running into Abby down here, but she hasn’t seen the kids since Aiden was still in diapers and Aly was crawling. We took Aly to one of the alumni get-togethers and saw Abby. She’s part of the SGA there now, which I think is pretty cool. Aly and Abby hit it off, as you can see in these pictures.

While I know there are things I could have done better during my student ministry days in Indy (and Danville, for that matter), seeing people like Abby, Stacy, Bethany, (and more…you know who you are!) and how they’re making a difference in their communities does help me look at the whole experience in a much more positive light.

Although there’s pain sometimes from the past, I think there’s certainly much more positive than negative that has come as a result.

But I digress. I really didn’t intend to talk much about youth ministry. I really wanted to talk about Homecoming. So, here goes.

We saw some people I haven’t seen in quite a while. The Hausers are in the States now, and it was great meeting Sam. Brian is still the same Brian it seems – although with a few extra pounds, it seems.

And then we ran into a couple that lives in Atlanta. We were talking to them about the church we’re involved with and how it’s just getting off the ground and how we’re borrowing a lot from Buckhead Church. Then she said, “Wait. Buckhead. Did you say Buckhead? As in North Point? We’ve been going to North Point for a while now. I’ve heard about you guys!” She knew about Summit – which was really cool. They’re in some type of leadership at North Point and were very excited to have heard about a North Point style church coming to the Tri-Cities. They had no idea we were connected with that church plant. Small world, huh? I keep forgetting to tell Frank about this conversation. Gotta remember to do that.

I also found the coolest t-shirt ever.  It says Milligan Football – Undefeated since 1950.
