Aiden the Basketball Player

I thought tonight would be the last basketball game with the Tar Heels.

I was wrong.

I was right when I said they’d lose to the Thunder, though. It was close. Too close. Overtime close. In the middle of the fourth quarter (I think), the coach’s son got hurt in what appeared to be a foul. He went down to the floor, crying. Coach ran out and started yelling at the ref because he thought his son had been fouled and there was a “no-call.”

I guess Coach said some things that were inappropriate. I didn’t hear them. The ref sure did. He called two quick technical fouls, which led to Coach’s ejection from the game (and the building). They even threatened to call the cops to escort him out of the building.

While I don’t agree with calling the ref some colorful names, I do understand Coach going out onto the floor and yelling at them. If it were Aiden crying on the floor because he got hurt on a foul, and I thought they hadn’t been calling fouls, I’d probably go after the refs, too. I almost pulled Aiden from a game once because they were letting the kids get too physical. That was after one kid had a bloody lip, though.

With no coach and the made free throws after the technical, the Tar Heels had their work cut out for them. They still managed to lose by just one point. Maybe two…I can’t remember. I brought the video camera and got some video of Aiden at the game. I’ll have to check on the score. I was proud of the Tar Heel parents this time, though. They gave the team a standing ovation after the loss.

Those poor kids. As the game got more intense, all of the adults started yelling more things for the kids to do on the court. I know everyone is tryig to help, but what do you expect a kid to do when he hears two different (loud) adults yell “Hurry!” and “Slow down!” at the same time? No wonder they get so worked up by the end of the game!

Anyway, since this is a tournament, I thought the season was over. I was wrong. I guess it’s double elimination. They play the Sixers tomorrow night. If they win that game, they play the Thunder again on Thursday night.

I don’t know if we can take another rematch.
