Movie Theaters & Church

I forgot to mention that Caleb went with us to the Jonesborough Christmas event last night. His parents went down to Atlanta to hear a friend of theirs preach for the first time.

We all went to Lifehouse Church today. They meet in Real to Reel theaters. I’ve always heard about the advantages and disadvantages of a church plant meeting in a movie theater. I had never experienced it first-hand, though. Overall, it was a positive experience. The congregation was very welcoming. I knew the kids were taken care of. I could sense a passion about what they were doing. My only complaint, and it really isn’t a complaint, is that my calves started to hurt after standing a while because the floor is sloped – it is a movie theater, after all. That’s something to remember if we ever are involved in a church plant – allow some “down time” between songs to help people’s legs. That was a minor issue, though. I don’t want to sound like I’m talking negative about them. I really enjoyed it and I appreciate the work they are doing. If anyone in the Tri-Cities is reading this and looking for a church, I’d definitely check them out.

A funny thing happened this morning as we were getting ready. We were telling the kids about the church we were visiting and Caleb said, “Yeah, we’re going to the Chicken Little church.”

He was right – that’s where we saw Chicken Little with them a few weeks ago. It’s amazing what kids can put together.

I doubt I’ll ever hear of another church called the Chicken Little church.
