FAQs

Over the past year, I’ve had different people ask me the same things, so I figure it might be a benefit to others for me to have an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section. That way, when people ask me this year, I can direct them to my site….or I can cut and past the responses…or something like that.

How is it going to work with you and your wife both going to school? My original answer to this is I have no idea. It sounds like we’re both crazy, doesn’t it? What I’ve come to discover is they just want to know is how we’re both going to be in class at the same time and still afford someone to watch the kids. Fortunately, we don’t really have to do that. My classes are in the morning, Tuesday thru Friday, and Christy’s are in the evening on Mondays and Tuesdays. She has to work for the school some afternoons, but there is quite a lot of open time for us to study, spend time as a family, and for me to work part-time.

When you’re done with seminary, will you be ordained? Actually, I was ordained back in 1999 during my first youth ministry adventure in the heart of Kentucky. My old youth minister officiated the service and it was held at Crossroads Christian Church.

What are your plans after grad school? My ultimate dream would be to return to Evansville and be involved in a church planting movement in the area. The West Side has a large university and very few life-giving churches reaching out to the community. Don’t get me wrong, Crossroads, CFC, Bethel Temple – they’re all doing phenominal ministry. But they’re on the East side. After communting 45 minutes to church while I was in Indy, I have come to discover the need to have churches nearby. Even 15 minutes is probably too far for someone who doesn’t normally go to church. Every time I try to look into the future, Evansville always comes up. If there’s one thing I’ve learned I’m passionate about, it’s the need for more churches in the Evansville area. Does that mean I’m the guy to start the movement? I don’t know. That’s a question for God – not me.

Do you plan on becoming a preacher with your “own” church after seminary? See above. It could be in my future, but it might not. Don’t tell Dr. Roberts, though. On one test during Intro. to Ministry, he asked the question, “What is a lectionary and how do you plan to use it in your ministry?” I answered, I don’t plan on using it because I don’t plan on preaching. He responded, saying, “That’s a little short-sighted, isn’t it?” If I do wind up preaching, don’t tell him. I can’t admit one of my professors might have been right…gasp!

Why Emmanuel? Why, indeed. Of the short list schools I considered, they offered me the most in scholarships and aid. It has been nice to return to Tennessee’s fair eastern mountains, though. The deciding factor was when I asked Emmanuel’s church-planting guru whether he thought I should get involved in a church plant, or come to Emmanuel he said, “Go ahead and come down. God is doing things here.” So, we loaded up the truck and moved to Tennessee (hills, that is…).

Will your future Evansville church plant be a Stadia plant? Never say never…but probably not. I’d explain more, if you’d like. That’s a ballgame of a different color, though.

Sounds great! Could you use some financial support? Absolutely! I’ve teamed up with Student Ministries, INC to help with my support team building. You can donate online. Make sure you have my ID# (email me and I’ll give it to you).

I need to verify your account for (fill in the blank) Bank. Can I have your account number, social security number, and all of your passwords? I get several emails from kindhearted souls who want to verify my information for me. If you’re one of those people, you can get my information here.
